This is the digital version of the renowned "Compact Dictionary of Law", by the lawyer Sérgio Sérvulo da Cunha. With more than 100,000 printed copies sold in bookstores, it is a valuable reference work for students, teachers and professionals in the field. The approximately 6,000 entries contained in it are: a) legal terms contained in our main codes, laws and legal texts in general; b) terms of common language often used in legal practice; c) terms of the sciences or knowledge orders auxiliary to the Law; d) some acronyms used in legal, administrative or political practice; e) some foreign terms constantly referred to in this practice. This is not an encyclopedic dictionary of law; nor is it a dictionary of legal curiosities, or repertoire of archaic terms. The terms selected are the most frequent of our practice, and those whose technical meaning distances itself from the ordinary meaning, although some terms that are no longer in the ordering can be found for historical value.Sérvulo was born in Santos, in 1935. He graduated in Law and Philosophy from USP. He was procurator of the State of São Paulo, deputy mayor of Santos and Municipal Secretary of Legal Affairs. At the Federal Council of the OAB, he coordinated the commission that served in the 1987-1988 Constituent Assembly. In the Ministry of Justice, he was chief of staff of the minister Márcio Thomaz Bastos (2003-2004). He is the author of several books of Law and Philosophy.
